Marketing & long-form for Freediving Coaches of Asia
Marketing collateral for a regional coaching collective in the freediving community, alongside a reported long-form feature for Eastern Review on the workshop's founder Jeroen Elout and his mission to reconnect people to the ocean.
Eastern Review — December 2021 feature
A reported long-form travel-and-adventure feature on the fortnight-long workshop on the Pondicherry coast, weaving together teaching methodology, ocean conservation, plastic pollution observed underwater, and Jeroen Elout's argument that conservation begins with connection.
View the featureThe brief
The collective wanted marketing collateral that conveyed the seriousness and craft of freediving without making it look like an extreme-sports brochure. Alongside that, an opportunity to write reportage for Eastern Review — a chance to put the practice in front of a broader, non-sports audience through narrative.
What I did
Produced marketing materials for the workshop programme, then reported and wrote a long-form travel-and-adventure feature for Eastern Review (December 2021 issue) covering the fortnight-long workshop on the Pondicherry coast. The feature wove together teaching methodology, ocean conservation, plastic pollution observed underwater, and Jeroen Elout's argument that conservation begins with connection.
Outcome
The feature ran across two pages of Eastern Review with photography from the workshop. The marketing collateral served the collective's recruiting for subsequent training cohorts.
